Jump Into January

There may be only two weeks left of January, but as many of us are just heading back to work it is still the perfect time to set some of those goals for the year, and more importantly, have a plan to achieve them!

At Marslen Chiropractic, we are interested in not just ensuring you have optimal spinal and nervous system function, but that we address your overall health and wellbeing. We want you to be working and functioning as your best self, which means we address things like diet, exercise and mindfulness with our patients.

Here’s our top tips for overall wellbeing in 2019 – feel free to incorporate some or all of these into your health goals for the year!

  1. Hydration. Drinking enough water is paramount to healthy cell expression. Dehydration affects all aspects of our body, from skin and brain health to mental function. There are lots of ways to ensure proper hydration. The most popular rule is 2L per day, or around 8 glasses of water. Another measurement is to drink 0.33L per kilo of body weight. So, if you weigh 60kg, you should drink 2L per day; however, if you weigh 90kg, that’s 3L per day. Research has found that a whopping 80% of Australians drink far less than their daily water requirements, making this a big problem, and a great goal to focus on in 2019!

  1. Daily movement. We all try and exercise, fitting in a couple of gym classes, swims or cycles per week – but are you moving your body every day? It doesn’t need to be much, but daily movement has been found to have great health benefits. Try getting up just a bit earlier and going for a 15minute walk to start your day. You will have improved circulation and better brain health for your efforts!

  1. Mindfulness. This was perhaps the biggest buzzword of 2018, and for good reason. If you haven’t yet jumped on the mindfulness bandwagon, here are some benefits: decreased stress, enhanced immunity, and improved working memory are just a few. And it doesn’t have to take up a lot of time: studies show that just 10 minutes a day can provide amazing benefits, IF performed consistently. Mindfulness also doesn’t need to be seated meditation (although this is great too). It can be mindful walking, mindful journaling, mindful colouring, or even mindfully drinking a cup of tea. Find what works for you and try to perform it daily!
  2. Get adjusted. The start of the year is a great time to get on top of those niggles you've been meaning to get checked out, such as low back pain, headaches or other spinal issues. We're here to help!

As always, we are happy to answer any questions via email or phone call. We look forward to supporting the heath of you and your family this year!
